Cont.

My Dad brought a very good point last night (and that is a phrase I do NOT use often). Ben Matlock made a TON of money.. a TON. He would charge his clients an exorbitant amount of money because he was the best defense attorney in Atlanta, and arguably, of all time. However, he always wore the same suit. Really Ben? Really? I know they call if HOTlanta for a reason and it might have been the style of the times (See Miami Vice) but you're telling me the man didn't own a pair of black slacks?

And was is just the decade that made all crime dramas cheesy? Because Quincy M.E., however implausible that the coroner of a major city has that much time to investigate murders and weird plagues, was so well written with more believable plots. This point begs the question: How does anyone like CSI? I've gotten into this 'argument' with my best friend Erica before and it didn't end well for either of us, mostly because I refuse to give CSI any merit whatsoever. Yes the science stuff is cool but 1) The acting is awful and horrendous. There is a blonde technician whose performance is more painful than watching Valerie Russo played Belle in the 8th grade Disney Dazzle musical, lifting up her arms to expose very hairy armpits. The red haired lady sucks sucks sucks and Grisham isn't Sir Anthony Hopkins eithers. Oh yeah, I'm referring to Las Vegas, Miami isn't much better. Although my dad heard David Caruso on TV talking smack about Las Vegas because at least he"plays a real cop, they are just scientists" Also, CSI lacks a plausibility that I just can't get over, Crime Scene Investigators do not go beyond the crime scene. They do not invesitgate witnesses or chase perps. In fact CSI people aren't even necessarily the people doing the scientific work in the labs, they are more of the bag & tag evidence crew. Of course there are elements of Law & Order that are unbelievable and inaccurate, but the acting is much better (save ADA Sutherland and to some extent, ADA Borgia) and the premise of acceptable reality is there for me. CSI:NY was on Tv for about 5 minutes? Poor Gary Sinise couldn't make it on the small screen.

Don't even get my started on L&O:Criminal Intent. Vincent D'Onofrio is so irritating, in a bad-you are not Columbo way. The co-star is a terrible actress and you wonder why my actress friends are trying to make it big while these people have jobs on major network prime time programming.

Oh yeah Monk sucks. Tony Shaloub is a good actor but the plots are awful with really unsatisfying endings. His character is annoying and idiosyncratic in a way that's endearing for my mom. Psych is eh, but it's not pretending to be a serious show by any means. I think Gus (the black friend) is cute, and no he is not Kenny from The Cosby Show (I know I checked).
